Milwaukee Road 261 - Birmingham, MO

Milwaukee Road 261 leads an excursion train north on the joint Union Pacific/Illinois, Chicago and Eastern Railroad (formerly the I&M Rail Link) mainline at Birmingham Junction. The steam engine and its train had been on display at Kansas City Union Station, and now Milwaukee Road 261 was headed back home to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Today, this joint trackage is operated by Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific. The railroad line carries the Union Pacific Trenton Subdivision and the Canadian Pacific K.C. Subdivision. Canadian Pacific took over the Illinois, Chicago and Eastern Railroad (ICE) in 2008. The ICE railroad took over theline from I&M Rail Link in 2002. Originally, this railroad line was a Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (Milwaukee Road) line, so in a way 261 is back on home rails.
