BNSF 6201 leads an empty coal train north on the BNSF's Thayer North Subdivision, at Box School Loop Road. The train is about 20 miles from Springfield, MO. From there it will continue on to Kansas City, and then on to the Powder River Coal Basin for another load of coal.

A BNSF Empty Coal Train Is Disappearing Over A Hill On The Orin Subdivision

BNSF 8816 is the distributed power unit pushing on a north bound empty coal train on the BNSF's Orin Subdivision. At this time the section of track was double tracked, but within a short amount of time it would be triple tracked. This image was taken between Hwy 450, to the north, and Edwards/Reno Road, to the south.

Union Pacific Coal Train on the Orin Subdivision

In this image the entire length of a Union Pacific coal train can be seen, as it rolls north on the BNSF's Orin Subdivision in the Powder River Coal Basin. The lead locomotives are just over the slight hump near the two block signals in the far distance.

This was taken alongside Hilight Road, somewhere between Hwy 450 and Edwards/Reno Road.

BNSF 6840 and BNSF 6958 on the Orin Subdivision In Wyoming

A BNSF work train is seen here on BNSF's Orin Subdivision, near Wyoming Highway 450. BNSF 6840 and BNSF 6958 are on the point of this ballast train, which is waiting to proceed south. At this time there was a lot of track work occuring adding a third and fourth mainline to much of the Orin Subdivision. This portion of the line was triple tracked at this time.

BN 5802 at Gillette Energy Park In Gillette, WY.

Burlington Northern (BN) 5802 (GE U30C) sits on display at Gillette Energy Park. This locomotive is of the type that was used by BN to haul long coal trains from the Power River Coal Basin. The park has an assortment of mining equipment on display that was used in the area.

The locomotive was originally numbered as BN 5302, and was built in 1972, by General Electric.

BNSF 9221 On The Black Hills Subdivision at Gillette, WY.

BNSF 9221, a former Burlington Northern engine, leads a west bound train on BNSF's Black Hills Subdivision. In a few miles the train will leave the Black Hills Subdivision and roll onto the BNSF's Big Horn Subdivision. The train to the right was an empty coal train that was heading back for another load of coal in the Powder River Coal Basin (PRCB), via Donkey Creek Junction, which is a few miles east of town.

A Union Pacific Stack Train Curves Toward An Old Santa Fe Signal Bridge

A Union Pacific trackage rights train is about to pass under the old Santa Fe style signal bridge at Fort Madison. The train is heading westward on BNSF's Chillicoth Subdivision. The signal on the right is indicating that another train has been lined west on the right-hand main.

Amtrak 31 and another Amtrak engine lead the Ann Rutledge west on the Union Pacific's Jefferson City Subdivision. The train is making its daily trek across Missouri from St. Louis to Kansas City.

UP 5561 Waiting on the Springfield Subdivision With The Gateway Arch

Union Pacific 5561 waits on UP's Springfield Subdivision, near S. 19th Street, with the Gateway Arch in the background. The train was waiting for clearance to proceed east to Valley Junction, where it would take an interchange track and roll onto the Union Pacific's Chester Subdivision to head south.Valley Junction is a major junction in the St. Louis area.

UP 6809 and UP 6703 On The East Approach Of The MacArthur Bridge

Union Pacific 6809 and Union Pacific 6703 lead an empty coal train west on the eastern approach of the MacArthur Bridge. The train is passing by Jackie Joyner Park.

Union Pacific 6703 is ex-Chicago & Northwestern Railroad (C&NW) 8801, and was one of many locomotives that C&NW painted with the "Operation Lifesaver" logotype on the sides.
