IAIS 7081 Along West 5th Street In Davenport, IA.
October 18, 2008. Davenport, Iowa.
Iowa Interstate 7081 leads an excursion train down West 5th Street, at the Brown Street crossing.
IAIS 7081 is a QJ class steam locomotive that was built in China. Unfortunately, this locomotive and its sister locomotive IAIS 6988 are currently not operating. The IAIS shut down its steam program back around 2013. In 2014, a group of volunteers formed the Central States Steam Preservation Association in an effort to take ownership of the two locomotives and keep them in operating order. However, as of the most recent post on the groups Facebook page, the locomotives are still in storage and are not running.

Great image! Sad to see they are not running currently. I would love to see in person.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shelly Gunderson. I was lucky to seem them under steam twice. Once in 2008, and then again in 2011. Hopefully, the volunteer group can get one, or both of them under steam again.
ReplyDeleteShelly Gunderson 7081 is still in organization. QJ6988 is Americanized and still running. I'm not really a huge fan of things to be Americanized, but I still like the American engines!
ReplyDelete歐懷澤 Thanks for the info. I will have to find out when and where they run.
ReplyDeleteShelly Gunderson, it looks like 6988 ran some excursions, for the first time in six years, this past August 18 and 19. 7081 is still laid up though. Both 6988 and 7081 are really interesting locomotives to see and chase.
