Swing Span Of The Keokuk and Hamilton Bridge

October 17, 2008. Keokuk, Iowa.

Most of the railroad swing span of the Keokuk and Hamilton Bridge is seen in the open position in this image. The bridge is used by the Keokuk Junction Railway to cross the Mississippi River between the states of Illinois and Iowa. With the swing span in the open position, river traffic can pass through the locks, which are part of Lock and Dam No. 19. The upper deck of the bridge was originally used for automobile traffic, but now a portion of it is used for a pedestrian walkway.

To see a few other images that I have taken of the bridge at this location follow this link.
