NS 9599 is a model C44-9W (Dash 9-44CW), and was built by General Electric.  NS 8450 is ex-Conrail locomotive CR 757, according to RR Picture Archives. It is a model C40-8W, and was built by General Electric for Conrail in 1994. Since the time that this photograph was taken, NS 8450 has been repainted into Norfolk Southern's Thoroughbred paint scheme, which is the paint scheme that NS 8450 is painted in.

NS St. Louis District

The St. Louis District runs between Moberly, Missouri, and St. Louis, Missouri. Originally, the St. Louis District was a Wabash Railroad line. Through the years the line became part of the Norfolk & Western Railway, when the Wabash and Norfolk & Western merged. After being part of the Norfolk and Western, the line became part of the Norfolk Southern when the N&W and Southern Railway merged in the early 1980s.

The line heads west out of St. Louis through the Missouri towns of O'Fallon, Wentzville, Warrenton, before heading to the northeast at New Florence. From New Florence, Missouri, the line goes through the towns of Mexico, Centralia, Sturgeon, Clark, and Renick, before reaching Moberly. Between the towns of Mexico and Centralia, the St. Louis District parallels the Kansas City Southern's Mexico Subdivision. And the two rail lines cross each other at a diamond crossing in the town of Clark.

    1. Thanks, Shelly. Yes, I like the paint scheme too. It is simple, but it is a very striking scheme.
