Norfolk Southern (NS) 9599, Norfolk Southern 8450, and two other unknown locomotives, lead a train east along Switzer Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. The train is rounding the curve at milepost 8 on the Norfolk Southern's St. Louis District. Soon, the train will be entering  Luther Yard  after having made the trek from Moberly, Missouri, where the St. Louis District meets up with the Norfolk Southern's Hannibal District and  Kansas City District . NS 9599 and NS 8450 - St. Louis, MO NS 9599 and NS 8450 NS 9599 is a model C44-9W (Dash 9-44CW), and was built by General Electric.  NS 8450 is ex-Conrail locomotive CR 757, according to RR Picture Archives. It is a model C40-8W, and was built by General Electric for Conrail in 1994. Since the time that this photograph was taken, NS 8450 has been repainted into Norfolk Southern's Thoroughbred paint scheme, which is the paint scheme that NS 8450 is painted in. BNSF 4129 brings up the end of an empty coal train at Branch Street. BNSF 4129 is the distributed power (DP) unit on this empty hopper car train that is heading north on BNSF's Hannibal Subdivision , at Branch Street, in St. Louis, MO. The train has just crossed Branch Street and is passing alongside the old Illinois Traction System (ITS)/Illinois Terminal Railroad (ITC) approach to the McKinley Bridge. The McKinley Bridge crosses the Mississippi River between St. Louis, Missouri and Venice, Illinois. Seen in the photo on the bridge's approach are the old catenary suspension supports for the ITS/ITC trains, which were originally electrically powered. In the past the McKinley Bridge carried both trains and automobiles over the river. These days, the bridge serves automobiles, pedestrians, and bikes. Earlier today, I was on my way home from running errands when I saw the crossing signals flashing for the crossing at Winston Hills Parkway. Not knowing which way, the train was heading I made my way to the TN-386 overpass over Nashville Pike and pulled off to the side of the road. Soon, CSXT 5110 and CSXT 408 came north leading their train under the TN-386 overpass. This train was traveling to Louisville, Kentucky, on CSX's Main Line Subdivision , which runs between Nashville, Tennessee, and Louisville. Back in February of 2008, I caught BNSF 7704 is leading a trio of locomotives and their empty coal train east on the TRRA's Merchants Subdivision, at Jefferson Avenue. Back in 2008, when this photograph was taken, the Jefferson Avenue overpass was being replaced. You can see one of the new bridge piers to the right of the train. BNSF 7704 leads a trio of locomotives on the point of an empty coal train.   The tracks to the left and in the foreground are part of Union Pacific's Jefferson City Subdivision. The Jefferson City Subdivision and the Merchants Subdivision run side-by-side between Gratiot Interlocking (to the east) and Grand Avenue Interlocking to the west. Between Jefferson Avenue and Gratiot Interlocking, Union Pacific's 12th Street Yard sits between the two subdivisions.  BNSF trains use about five miles of the TRRA Merchants Subdivision between Grand Interlocking  (sometimes referred to as Grand Avenue Interlocking) and North Market Interlocking , located ...

August 23, 2005. Gillette, Wyoming. Burlington Northern (BN) 5802 (GE U30C) sits on display at Gillette Energy Park. This locomotive is of the type that was used by BN to haul long coal trains from the Power River Coal Basin. The park has an assortment of mining equipment on display that was used in the area. BNSF 614 - Ottumwa Subdivision - Lockridge, IA BNSF 614 (a GE C44-9W), still in its Santa Fe Warbonnet paint scheme , and BNSF 1018 (a GE C44-9W) lead a train of corn syrup tank cars east on the BNSF Ottumwa Subdivision. The train is round a curve alongside Highway US 34, on the east side of Lockridge, Iowa. BNSF 614 BNSF 614 was built in 1994, for the Santa Fe Railway by General Electric, and is a C44-9W. The locomotive was built just a year or so before the Burlington Northern Railroad and the Santa Fe Railway began their merger, which was officially finalized in late 1996. The locomotive still has Santa Fe lettering on the sides, but the front of the cab has been re-lettered with BNSF. About the image The original image was capture on a 35mm transparency, which was then copied and converted to digital using a Canon DSLR combined with a Sigma macro lens. Lighting for the copy slide setup was provided by a single flash connected to the camera via an off-shoe cord.  ...

BNSF 614 BNSF 614 was built in 1994, for the Santa Fe Railway by General Electric, and is a C44-9W model. The locomotive was built about a year or so before the Burlington Northern Railroad and the Santa Fe Railway began their merger, which was officially finalized in late 1996. The locomotive still has Santa Fe lettering on both of its sides, but the front of the cab has been re-lettered with BNSF. At the time of the photograph, the BNSF was officially named the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway, but is now officially named the BNSF Railway.
