BNSF 5613 and BNSF 9464 - Ravenna Subdivision - Grand Island, NE

BNSF 5613 and BNSF 9464 are on the point of a coal train that is heading eastbound on the BNSF's Ravenna Subdivision. The train is passing over the Union Pacific's Kearney Subdivision. Just beyond the bridge in the background, on the right side of the Kearney Subdivision, is Union Pacific's yard at Grand Island, Nebraska. This photograph is looking east from Oak Street, which is at milepost  146.59 on the UP Kearney Subdivision.

BNSF Ravenna Subdivision

The BNSF's Ravenna Subdivision runs between Ravenna, Nebraska, and Lincoln, Nebraska. Milepost 0.0 of the subdivision is on its eastern end, in Lincoln. The western end of the subdivision is at milepost 128.2, at a railroad location known as West Ravenna, on the western side of Ravenna, Nebraska. In Lincoln, the Ravenna Subdivision connects with the BNSF Creston Subdivision, and in Ravenna, the subdivision connects with the BNSF Sand Hills Subdivision.

BNSF Bellwood and Giltner Subdivisions

In addition to Grand Island, Nebraska, some of the other towns that the subdivision passes through are the towns of Seward, Nebraska, and Aurora, Nebraska. At BR Junction, in Seward, Nebraska, the BNSF Bellwood Subdivision diverges from the Ravenna Subdivision and runs north to Columbus, Nebraska. There is a large Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) facility in Columbus that is on the northern end of the Bellwood Subdivision. BR Junction is at milepost 27.7 on the Bellwood Subdivision, and milepost 27.8 on the Revenna Subdivision. Columbus, Nebraska, is at milepost 66.5 on the Bellwood Subdivision.

At Aurora, there is a BNSF branch line named the Giltner Subdivision that connects with the Ravenna Subdivision, and runs twenty-six miles to GH Junction, at Hastings, Nebraska. The line runs on a southwest direction from Aurora to Hastings. At GH Junction, the Giltner Subdivision connects with the BNSF Hastings Subdivision. Aurora, Nebraska, is milepost 0.4 on the Giltner Subdivision, and Hastings, Nebraska is milepost 26.4. The town of Giltner, Nebraska, that the line is named after is at milepost 9.9.
