A late-summer sunset reflects off the Seneca River at Liverpool, NY. This photograph is looking west across the Seneca River at Liverpool, New York . I captured this sunset last month a little over a week before the official end of summer. The sunset struck me as a sign that summer was almost over, and sure enough the temperature changed on a dime here in Central New York. One day I had the air conditioner running, and the next I had the heat on in case the house got too cold at night.

August 13, 2008. Chicago, Illinois. Sailboats gliding across the lake on a calm and warm summer evening.

With the light of another fall day coming to a close, an empty BNSF iron ore train sits on Union Pacific's Chester Subdivision, near Chalfin Bridge, IL . The Chester Subdivision is double-tracked, but this northbound train had to wait for three or four other northbound trains to clear the line ahead of it, while a parade of southbound trains passed it on the other track. Once the rail line was cleared ahead this train then proceeded north into the St. Louis railroad gateway. Photo taken: November 6, 2005, near Chalfin Bridge, Illinois.

This image was captured while out sailing on Lake Michigan, many years ago with one of my best friends. Sunset - Kearney Subdivision - Maxwell, NE It's hard to tell but there are actually two Union Pacific trains opposing each other on the center track in this image. It's been so long that I don't remember which train diverged to another track. The train whose headlight you can see in the distance on the center track has recently left Union Pacific's Bailey Yard and is heading east on Union Pacific Kearney Subdivision.
