GECX 8497 at Valley Junction

GECX 8497 (an EMD SD40T-2) comes off the TRRA's Illinois Transfer Subdivision at Valley Junction. The Illinois Transfer Subdivision runs between Valley Junction on the southern end of the line, and TRRA's Madison Yard on the northern end. In the background, the train is passing under a portion of the MacArthur Bridge's east approach that leads into Alton & Southern's Gateway Yard. The eastern approach splits at Valley Junction, with two tracks going to the A&S yard, and the two tracks to the left of GECS 8497 coming down to grade next to South 20th Street in East St. Louis, IL. The road in front of the locomotive leads into the massive rail yard complex east of the junction.
