LMX 8598, LMX 8532 and BN 5492 - McCook, NE Here we see Burlington Northern 5492, a GE built B30-7, as the third unit on a west bound train on Burlington Northern's Hastings Subdivision. The first two locomotives are lease units, LMX 8598 and LMX 8532, and both units are GE built B39-8E models. The train was passing by the McCook Amtrak station/Burlington Northern office building. At the time there was a pedestrian bridge over the tracks, which is where I took this image from. Today, looking on Google Maps, it looks like the bridge is gone. Today, this railroad line is owned by the BNSF Railway, due to the merger of the Burlington Northern Railroad and the Santa Fe Railway that was started in September 1995, and was officially completed in December 1996. This photograph is an oldie (at least for me) but a goodie in my opinion. CITX 3092 leads a UP manifest train east along Manchester Ave. Heading east on Union Pacific's Jefferson City Subdivision , CITX 3092 leads a freight train along Manchester Avenue. The train had been waiting at Knox Avenue , just beyond the overpass in the distance, for clearance to proceed east toward Grand Interlocking . The train is approaching the Sublette Avenue crossing. On the point of this tank car train is First Union Rail (FURX) 3042, with an ex-Conrail unit. The train is heading north on Union Pacific's Chester Subdivision at Chalfin Bridge, IL . This curve at Chalfin Bridge is a popular spot, at least to me, along the Chester Subdivision, due to the rest of the subdivision being very straight between here and Dupo, IL. (Dupo is approximately twenty-three miles to the north of here). Counting this curve, there are three curves in the rail line between Chalfin Bridge and Dupo. If you take a look at this map at Open Railway Map , you can see that long portions of the Chester Subdivision stretch for miles without a curve. The rail line is also very flat, since it runs through the Mississippi River Valley, through southern Illinois. Update (2019-10-31): First Union Rail was a locomotive and rail car leasing company. Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM) 4546 and Larry's Truck & Electric (LETX) 8858 ( EMD SD40T-2 ) are south bound on the point of Union Pacific train, ZYCHOB 13. This is a high priority train running between Yard Center near Chicago, Illinois, and Houston, Texas. In the background is the J.B. Bridge, which carries Interstate 255 across the Mississippi River, between South St. Louis County, in MO., and Columbia, IL. KCSM 4546 is a GE built locomotive, model GE AC44CW. GECX 8497 at Valley Junction GECX 8497 (an EMD SD40T-2 ) comes off the TRRA's Illinois Transfer Subdivision at Valley Junction . The Illinois Transfer Subdivision runs between Valley Junction on the southern end of the line, and TRRA's Madison Yard on the northern end. In the background, the train is passing under a portion of the MacArthur Bridge's east approach that leads into Alton & Southern's Gateway Yard . The eastern approach splits at Valley Junction, with two tracks going to the A&S yard, and the two tracks to the left of GECS 8497 coming down to grade next to South 20th Street in East St. Louis, IL. FURX 7258 - St. Louis, MO FURX 7258 (an EMD SD40-2) leads a BNSF freight train west near Vandeventer Avenue. The train is heading west on the BNSF's Hannibal Subdivision and is heading to BNSF's Lindenwood Yard . Photograph taken: April 18, 2005. St. Louis, Missouri.

LMX 8512 - Old Monroe, MO LMX 8512, a GE B39-8E , leads a BNSF train around the bend at Old Monroe, Missouri. The freight train is heading north on BNSF's Hannibal Subdivision . At this location you could see the train for quite a ways, as the fields here lay in the flat Mississippi River valley. From here the train would travel on north toward Hannibal, Missouri, the town that the subdivision is named after, and then on toward Quincy, Missouri. At Quincy, the train could have taken two different routes. One route would have taken it toward Galesburg, Illinois, and the other route would have taken the train on north toward Iowa.
