A Sailboat On Lake Michigan As The Sun Heads Down To The Horizon

Image
August 13, 2008. Chicago, Illinois. Here's my contribution for the return of #TransportTuesday, curated by Shelly Gunderson and myself (Transport Tuesday was a weekly theme that was popular on Google+). This image was captured while out sailing on Lake Michigan, many years ago with one of my best friends. After a day of railfanning on the south side of the Chicago area, we met up with one of his friends who took us out sailing on the lake. Photo © Tom Gatermann.

Sunrise from the Front Door

Image
I didn't have to travel far for this one, just down the stairs and through the hallway to the front door. I don't take many sunrise or sunset photographs, but the colors and the fog captured my attention when I opened the door to go outside. Photo taken on: March 17, 2018.

Swing Span Of The Keokuk and Hamilton Bridge

Image
October 17, 2008. Keokuk, Iowa. Most of the railroad swing span of the Keokuk and Hamilton Bridge is seen in the open position in this image. The bridge is used by the Keokuk Junction Railway to cross the Mississippi River between the states of Illinois and Iowa. With the swing span in the open position, river traffic can pass through the locks, which are part of Lock and Dam No. 19. The upper deck of the bridge was originally used for automobile traffic, but now a portion of it is used for a pedestrian walkway. To see a few other images that I have taken of the bridge at this location follow this link . Photo © Tom Gatermann.
