CSXT 4001 leading S990 on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision

Image
S990-06 is westbound, passing by Murphy's Island along Onondaga Lake, just to the west of CP 291.   S990 is a special high-and-wide movement from General Electric at Schenectady, New York that is destined to the Smithboro, Illinois, (on the BNSF). This dimensionally-restricted train slowly made its way from Syracuse, New York, to Rochester, New York. Due to the size of the turbine S990 is carrying the train often has to stop and wait at places that allow other trains to safely pass. The train is also restricted to traveling at much slower speeds than a standard train.  S990 is crossing westbound over Onondaga Creek on the southern eastern edge of Onondaga Lake.   S990's consists is locomotive CSXT 4001, flatcar KRL 70863, depressed-center flat car KRL 204043, flat car KRL 600471, and caboose KRL 080. The railcars are owned by Kasgro Rail Corporation. KRL 204043's cargo is a GE Turbine destined for Smithboro, IL. Photographs taken on November 7, 2022.

CSX 904026 - Operation Lifesaver Caboose - Oct. 2018

Image
CSX 904026 - Gallatin, TN CSXT 904026 , painted in an old Operation Lifesaver paint scheme, is seen here sitting along side the  CSX Main Line Subdivision . The caboose looks likes it down and out, but it is still used on the local trains in the area. At least it was being used a year ago when I saw it on a CSX local in Gallatin . The windows on the sides have been welded shut with metal plates. Photo taken: October 8, 2018. Gallatin, Tennessee.

Missouri Pacific platform caboose - Ste. Genevieve, MO

Image
MoPac Caboose 13848 rusts away in the weeds near St. Genevieve, MO. One day while out railfanning south of the St. Louis area, I came across an old Missouri Pacific (MoPac) platform caboose that was just sitting, rusting away in the weeds at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. These old MoPac platform cabooses have always struck me as being an interesting design. One would look great in my backyard so that I could setup a grill on one of the caboose's decks. CSXT 2613 and CSXT 904026 - Gallatin, TN CSX 2613 and CSX 904026 sit on a side track along side the CSX Mainline Subdivision . Usually, the caboose is used on local trains that switch in the Gallatin, Tennessee, area. It can often be found parked along the main line is the general area of West Eastland Avenue and Durham Avenue when it is not in use. These days CSX 904026 is used as a shoving platform on the locals when the trains are being pushed down the tracks. Photograph taken: February 22, 2017, at Gallatin, Tennessee.

SP 4652 - St. Louis, MO Southern Pacific 4652, a bay window caboose, brings up the tail end of a Union Pacific local on the Jefferson City Subdivision back in 2005. This caboose is still roaming the rails on Union Pacific locals in the St. Louis area. Though it doesn't look as good today as it did in 2005. This photograph was taken just to the east of Grand Interlocking between Grand Avenue and Compton Avenue. Photograph taken: March 17, 2005, at St. Louis, Missouri.
