The "Green Bridge" over CP282 and the east side of DeWitt Yard

Image
The "Green Bridge" is a nickname for a pedestrian bridge in Minoa, New York. The bridge crosses over the eastern edge of CSX's DeWitt Yard and Syracuse Terminal Subdivision between North Main Street and South Main Street. There is no road crossing connecting the two streets, so the bridge allows pedestrians to cross safely over the tracks. It also gives railfans access to safely watch and photograph train movements on the eastern end of DeWitt Yard.  The "Green Bridge" at CP282 Looking at the north access ramp, as an ex-Wisconsin Central boxcar on train Q626-06 begins to roll under the Green Bridge. The Green Bridge earned its nickname because it is painted green. Though these days, the green color is faded, and reddish-brown rust seems to be more prominent. The bridge crosses directly over the top of control point (CP) 282 of CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. The bridge is a popular railfan hangout, even though the bridge can make photography difficult. ...

Fall colors and CSXT 4089 switching at DeWitt Yard

Image
While waiting for train I001-02 at the "Green Bridge," on the eastern edge of DeWitt Yard, in Minoa, New York, I spotted CSXT 4089 and another unknown CSX locomotive switching in the Local Yard. The fall colors along DeWitt Yard were at about their peak it seemed and made for a nice background to CSXT 4089. CSXT 4089 switches at the Local Yard in DeWitt Yard. While CSXT 4089 was switching, there was track work happing close by. It looked like rail replacement work was being done on one of the two stub tracks on the eastern end of the yard. These tracks are, I believe, for switching work at the yard. Track maintenance machines sit on the North Drill Lead at DeWitt Yard. Photographs taken on November 2, 2021, at Minoa, New York.

CSXT 4089 and CSXT 4046 switching on the east end of DeWitt Yard

I came across a switch job working on the eastern end of DeWitt Yard in Minoa, New York. CSXT 4089 and CSXT 4046 were working with a string of freight cars along North Central Avenue, just to the east of the pedestrian bridge (known as the Green Bridge). The two locomotives were switching cars in what is known as the Local Yard at CSX's DeWitt Yard. CSXT 4089 and CSXT 4046 CSXT 4089 and CSXT 4046 are  SD40-3 rebuilds . They were both originally built as SD40-2 models, by EMD. According to RRPicturesArchive.net, CSXT 4046 was built as Louisville and Nashville (LN) 8122, in 1980. I'm unsure when 4089 was built. The SD40-3 rebuilds feature new cabs, control systems, and positive train control (PTC).  CSXT 4089 and 4046 on the Local Yard Drill track, before "drilling" back into the Local Yard. After capturing the above image, I walked up onto the Green Bridge to capture a few more photographs of the switching job from above. The Green Bridge is a bit difficult to take pho...
