Image
Q560 is a daily manifest train that originates at CSX's Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati, Ohio, and travels to its final destination at Selkirk Yard in Selkirk, New York. Earlier this month, I came across CSX Q560 -02 with Canadian National (CN) 2838 and CSXT 39 on the point at DeWitt Yard waiting for a new crew. CN 2838 and CSXT 39 are on the head end of a crewless Q560-02 sitting on the North Runner at DeWitt Yard.   Q560-02 sat on the east end of the North Runner at DeWitt Yard in Minoa, New York. The train had arrived at DeWitt Yard in the early morning, after passing through Fairport, New York, at 03:35 AM. Depending on traffic, trains generally take an hour and a half to cover the distance between Fairport and Syracuse. A westward view of the east end of DeWitt Yard from North Main Street. Q560-02 is on the North Runner, next to the Local Yard Lead.   The day I caught Q560-02 was the day that CSX implemented the new "M" prefix for manifest train symbols. Any train or...

Q560-14, led by CSXT 893, at CP308 of the Rochester Subdivision

Image
Control point (CP) 308 is at milepost (MP) 308.7 of the CSX Rochester Subdivision. The CP sits on top of the Onondaga County and Cayuga County border, just to the east of Pump Road. On the east side of CP308 is Jordan, New York. To the west of it is the Town of Brutus, NY. The area west of CP308, even though it is in the Town of Brutus, is commonly referred to as Jordan. The route is clear for a Track 2 to Track 2 eastbound movement at CP308. In the photograph above, the route is set with a clear signal for an eastbound train on Track 2. The movement will be Track 2 to Track 2. CP308 has a single crossover that allows either eastbound movements from Track 2 to Track 1 or the reverse, westbound movements from Track 1 to Track 2. Q560-14 at CP 308 CSXT 893 and CSXT 5291 lead Q560-14 east at MP QC 309 toward CP308 at Pump Rd. The Bonta Bridge Rd. crossing is in the background. Very often, routes at CPs are set far in advance of a train. However, I didn't have long to wait this time. ...

Back on the morning of October 2, 2021, I was photographing trains on the western end of CSX's DeWitt Yard. A few hours later I wound up on the eastern end of the yard, at what is locally known as the Green Bridge. A pedestrian bridge that crosses over the tracks between North Main Street and South Main Street, in Minoa, New York. CSXT 112 and CSXT 5350 on Q560-01 Earlier in the day, I caught CSX train Q560-01, being led by CSXT 112 and CSXT 5350 coming east into DeWitt Yard at CP285, in East Syracuse, New York. Later in the day I wound up on the eastern end of the yard, at Minoa, New York. After CSXT 4089 and CSXT 4046 were done switching on the east end of DeWitt Yard and had cleared the track, Q560-01 showed up.  CSXT 112 and Q560 is stopped on the Local Yard Drill track on the east end of Dewitt Yard. The string of rail cars (right) is on the North Runner. Q560 is a daily manifest freight train that originates at Queensgate Yard, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and terminates at ...

On a partly cloudy morning in East Syracuse, New York, I was waiting at on the western end of CSX's DeWitt Yard for Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited. While waiting, I was able to catch two other trains at the yard. CSXT 112 and CSXT 5350 leading Q560-01 The first train I caught was Q560-01, a daily manifest freight train that runs from Cincinnati, Ohio, to Selkirk, New York. Along the trains journey to Selkirk, it makes a stop at DeWitt Yard to drop off and pick up cars. Below, at Bridge Street, Q560 comes around the curve on Track 1 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision (STS) at CP285. Behind the bridge and train are the old New York Central coaling towers .  CSXT 112 leads Q560 at CP285 Below, CSXT 112 and CSXT 5350 lead train Q560-01 onto the New Lead, from Track 1 of the STS. The block signals on the cantilever signal bridge control the yard's departure lead tracks. Q560-01 eastbound on the New Lead at DeWitt Yard Q115 being switched by CSXT 3390 and CSXT 479 While train Q560...
