CSX M364 at CP286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision

Image
With snow falling, M363-25 is stopped on Track 1 at CP 286 waiting for I009-24 to clear ahead of it.   On January 25th, on what had been, up to that point, a rare snowy day, I caught M363-25 at East Syracuse, NY. Due to priority intermodal train I009 departing as M363 passed by DeWitt yard, it had to stop at Control Point (CP) 286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. M363 got back underway after I009 had gotten enough of a head start.   Led by CSXT 3057, M363-25 is back on the move, passing under the westbound signal bridge at CP 286. Photographs taken on January 25, 2023, at East Syracuse, New York.

I004 is on Track 2 (Main 2). In the background is the eastward absolute signal (EAS) bridge for CP 286. I004 runs daily from Bedford Park, Illinois, to South Kearny, New Jersey. CP 286 is on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision in East Syracuse, New York. I001  will pass under the westbound signal bridge just east of Burnet Avenue.   CSXT 7235 leads I004-15 under the eastbound signal bridge at CP 286.   While waiting for M364-15 at East Syracuse, New York, I photographed priority intermodal train I004-15 as it passed through Control Point (CP) 286. I004 is on Track 2 and is passing under the signal bridge for the eastward absolute signals (EAS). CP 286 is part of CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision and is about half of a mile west of DeWitt Yard.  Photograph taken on October 16, 2022, at East Syracuse, NY.

BNSF 4779 northbound on UP's Chester Subdivision

Image
BNSF 4779 leads a grain train north under I-255, on the Chester Subdivision at CP D009.   Back in 2006 it was common to see BNSF trackage rights trains on Union Pacific's Chester Subdivision . I'm not sure if it is still the case today, as I've been away from the St. Louis area for many years now. Above, BNSF 4779 is leading this northbound grain train at Control Point (CP) D009 at Columbia, Illinois. A short while later, the train passes under CP D006's old Missouri Pacific cantilever signal bridges at UP's Dupo Yard. BNSF 4779 passes under the cantilever signal bridges at CPD006, at Dupo Yard. CP 5982 and CP 5776 - EMD SD40-2 - Signal Bridges - Gorham, IL.

Image
CP 5982 and CP 5776 - Gorham, IL Canadian Pacific (CP) 5982 and CP 5776 lead a trailer train under the old signal bridges at Gorham, IL. The train was heading north on Union Pacific's (UP) Chester Subdivision, and it would eventually make its way to the St. Louis area, via Dupo, IL. Both of these locomotives were built as EMD SD40-2 models . CP 5982 was built in January, 1981, and CP 5776 was built in February 1976. These signal bridges date from the days when this line was a former Missouri Pacific (MoPac) line, before the Union Pacific acquired the MoPac in 1982. While both of these signal bridges look to still be visible on Google Maps' satellite view, many of the old MoPac era signal bridges along this line are now gone. The signal bridge in the background (middle right of the photograph) is a cantilever type signal bridge . This train was a surprise, and quite a different sight from the standard parade of Union Pacific Amour Yellow locomotives that haul tra...

A Union Pacific train streaks under a cantilever signal bridge at Dupo Yard

Image
After waiting for a new crew, Union Pacific 6510 gets the green signal to proceed south under the old cantilever type signal bridge , on UP's Chester Subdivision at Dupo Yard. This old signal bridge was still standing the last time I was in Dupo, circa 2014. It is located along Main Street, at Lindeman Avenue.  Photograph taken on November 2, 2005, at Dupo, Illinois.

A Stack Train Going Through A Signal Bridge On The Marceline Subdivision

Image
A Union Pacific double-stack train passes under one of the old Santa Fe style signal bridges along BNSF's Marceline Subdivision . Today, I believe that all of these old signal bridges are now gone, having been replaced with newer tri-color modular block signals that sit atop signal poles alongside the tracks. These signal bridges, I thought, always added a nice touch of framing when photograph trains along this line. May 26, 2005. Wyaconda, Missouri.

UP 3961 - Dupo Yard - Cantilever Signal Bridge - March 2006

Image
UP 3961 under the southbound cantilever signal bridge at Dupo, IL. A Union Pacific (UP) freight train, led by UP 3961, rolls north under the cantilever signals bridges on Union Pacific's Chester Subdivision at Dupo Yard. You can see the northbound signal bridge in the distance, looking down the left side of the train. These signal bridges are from the days when this was a Missouri Pacific line and yard. Many of the old Missouri Pacific signal bridges along this line have disappeared over the years, but a few seem to remain, including some at Gorham, IL . At least it looks like they are still standing per the satellite and street views on Google Maps. Photo taken: March 18, 2006. Dupo, Illinois.
