  Intermodal train I017-02 is westbound, passing under the Oakland Rd. bridge and by snow-covered fields.   With a few inches of snow still on the ground from the last snowfall I headed to Weedsport, NY, to catch I017 (Worcester, MA., to Chicago (Bedford Park), IL.) as it passed by the snow-covered fields on the west side of town. Here, CSXT 3240, leads I017-02 west on the Rochester Subdivision, under the Oakland Road bridge.   Looking northeast, CSXT 3106 leads I017-14 west on Track 2, under the Oakland Rd. bridge.   Last week I was out at the Centerport area, between Weedsport, New York, and Port Byron, New York, where I caught I017 heading west on the Rochester Subdivision. I017 was making its daily trek from Worcester, Massachusetts, to Bedford Park (Chicago), Illinois.  I017-14 crossed from Track 2 to Track 1 at CP 313 (MP QC 314.0) .  Stretched over a mile and a half across the landscape, I017 crosses to Track 1 at CP 313.

  Yesterday, I caught CSX's intermodal train I017 at Weedsport, New York, on its daily trek from Worcester, Massachusetts, to Chicago, Illinois. CSXT 3436 is leading I017-10 west at the Oakland Road bridge at milepost (MP) QC 313.1 of CSX's Rochester Subdivision. A half mile west of Oakland Road is a defect detector at MP QC 313.7 and a little further west is  Control Point (CP) 313  (MP 314.0). CSXT 3436 leads I01710 west under the Oakland Rd. bridge at Weedsport, NY.    The area is beteween Weedsport, New York, and Port Byron, New York, is commonly called Centerport. Centerport and Port Byron were old ports on the Erie Canal before the canal was moved north to the Seneca River. Centerport isn't a town or hamlet, and the area is part of the Town of Mentz, New York. The area is on the west side of Weedsport and northeast of Port Byron.   With CP 291's eastbound signal bridge in the distance, I017 hustles west at Syracuse, NY.   From the New York Empire Trail bridge on the southwestern corner of Onondaga Lake I caught CSX intermodal train I017-17 (Worcester, MA., to Bedford Park, IL.). I017 is westbound on Track 1 and is passing through CP 291 (in the distance) of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. Here, the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision follows the southern end of Onondaga Lake between Interstate 81, to the east, and Interstate 690, to the west.   CSXT 3231 and I017 are westbound at Syracuse, NY. CSXT 3231 is leading CSX priority intermodal train I017 west on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision near milepost (MP) QC 292.5 The train is coming around the curve at the southwestern edge of Onondaga Lake . CSXT 3461 leads I017-21 west on Track 2 at Auto 280. Auto 280 sits along Saintsville Rd. in Kirkville, NY. I017 is a priority intermodal train that passes through the Syracuse, New York, area on its journey from Worcester, Massachusetts, to Bedford Park, Illinois. The train doesn't stop to work at DeWitt Yard in Syracuse, and often uses Track 2 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision to bypass the congestion of trains entering or leaving DeWitt Yard via Track 1. DeWitt Yard is two miles to the west (to the left) of Auto 280 and CP 280 . 

 Control Point (CP) 285 sits along CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision (STS) on the western end of DeWitt Yard. This end of the almost three-and-a-half-mile long yard is in East Syracuse, New York. The CP, along with CP286, controls trains on the STS, as well as trains entering and departing DeWitt Yard. A trio of CSX locomotives, including CSXT 6479, enter DeWitt Yard via the New Lead, next to MP 286. CP285, officially, per a 2004 CSX timetable, is at milepost (MP) QC 286 of the STS. Close to the center of CP285, the New York Central (NYC) concrete milepost 286 still stands on the south side of the tracks at the Bridge Street overpass. East end of CP285 CSXT 452 & CSXT 76 lead ethanol train B725-03 east on Track 2, past intermodal train I169-03 on the Departure Yard Lead.   The east side of the CP is east of Bridge Street, along East 1st Street, at MP QC 285.97, per one of the relay/control cabins. Early on December 22, 2021, the Syracuse, New York, area had snow flurries falling, heavily at times. There wasn't much snow accumulating on the ground, but there were enough flurries falling that I thought they would make for an interesting photograph with a train. I017 at Auto 280 My youngest and I went to Kirksville, New York, and as I drove east on Saintsville Road, I saw the headlight of priority intermodal train I017-22. The train was to the east of the Kirksville Road North crossing, which is a half of a mile east of Automatic 280/Control Point (CP) 280  (milepost 280.5). CP280 is a semi-CP. That means that only some of the tracks are governed by the CP. Tracks 1 and 2 are controlled by Automatic block signals. I017, with CSXT 833 and CSXT 473, rolls east on Track 2 through Auto 280, next to CP280. With a fresh coating of snow on the ground, from an overnight snowfall, my youngest and I headed out to see if we could find any trains on CSX's Rochester Subdivision . We heard train I017-23 call out that it had a clear signal at control point (CP) 290, which is in Syracuse, New York, on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision . We were at Warners, New York, about ten miles ahead of I017-23 , so I decided to go to Memphis, New York, to catch the train. CSXT 3325 leads I017-23 west at MP QC302 of the Rochester Subdivision. We arrived  at the Bennett's Corner Road crossing (MP QC 302.54), in Memphis, New York , and s oon saw the headlight of CSXT 3325 on the point of I017-23 in the far distance. I017 is a daily priority intermodal train that runs from Worchester, Massachusetts to Bedford Park, Illinois.  I017-23 disappears into a cloud of snow to the west of Bennett's Corner Road.  Yesterday, my youngest and I set out to run an errand over in East Syracuse, New York, and while out we took a quick detour over to the Minoa and Kirkville areas to see if any trains could be found either at the eastern end of DeWitt Yard, or further east along the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. I017-22 at CP280/Auto 280 on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision While driving back west on Sainstville Road, from North Kirkville Road, I saw the automatic signals at Auto 280/CP280 (MP QC280.5) come on, lined for a westbound on Track 1. We were in luck; well, I was in luck because my youngest had fallen asleep while we drove to Kirkville. Train I017-22, led by CSXT 3042, rolls west at Auto 280.  Soon, the headlight of CSXT 3042, leading train I017-22, appeared to the east, and within minutes was rolling through Auto 280 on Track 1. Once again, while out running errands, I made a detour to CSX's DeWitt Yard to see what was happening there. When I got to DeWitt Yard, at CP285, I saw that Track 2 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision was lined for a westbound. I also saw the headlight of a train switching in the intermodal yard beyond I-481. I decided to park and see what was coming from the east. I017-21 and I009-20 CSXT 982 leads I0117-21 west past I009-20 at CP285. The train that was switching in the intermodal yard was I009-20, led by CSXT 505. Soon I009-20 started to pull west toward CP285 on the outbound lead tracks. While it was slowly moving west, the headlight of CSXT 982 leading intermodal train I017-21 appeared on Track 2 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. It looked like the two trains were having a race. I017-21 gained quickly on I009-20, and passed it at CP285, a control point that sits on the western edge of DeWitt Yard.  CSXT 982 and CSXT 764 lead train I017-21 through CP285 at DeWitt Yard. I017...
