  CSXT 1850 and BNSF 6901 are on the point of manifest train M380 at CP-286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. M380 is stopped on Track 8, waiting for room at DeWitt Yard. Next to M380 is I003 taking head room on Track 1 at CP-286 as it gets in position to start working DeWitt Yard.  CSXT 1850 honors the Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N). The L&N was founded in Kentucky in 1850. and grew to serve fourteen states. CSXT 3191 leads I020-23 eastward through the rain and fog at East Syracuse, NY., on Christmas Eve.  No white Christmas for Syracuse, NY., this year. The closest the area got was rain and fog on Christmas Eve. Here, CSXT 3191 leads priority intermodal train I020 (Bedford Park, IL., to Worchester, MA.) east through rain and fog at East Syracuse, NY. The train is passing through CP-286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision . I020 would cross from Track 2 to the North Runner and head into CSX's DeWitt Yard . Photograph taken on December 24, 2023.

   At CP-282, CSXT 3261 is the rear DP on westbound intermodal train I157-05. In the background the Fremont Rd. bridge (1.4 miles to the west) is mostly obscured by the wildfire smoke.   On Tuesday, June 6th, and Wednesday, June 7th, Syracuse, New York, and the surrounding Central New York (CNY) area were blanketed with smoke from wildfires in Nova Scotia and Québec, Canada. Initially, early Tuesday morning, the air just looked to have some moderate haze and smelled of smoke. By midmorning, at times, it was difficult to see structures beyond a mile and the air at times had a yellowish cast to it.  Looking west from the  "Green Bridge" at Minoa, NY. , yellow tinted smoke surrounds CSXT 4090, which is stopped in the distance on the North Drill Track at DeWitt yard.     Compared to some parts of the Eastern US and Canada, the Syracuse area didn't get the worst of it. The Air Quality Index (AQI) considers good air quality to be in the range between 0 to 5...

  L024-09 is eastbound at CP 286, passing under Burnet Ave. at East Syracuse, NY.   L024-09 is returning from picking up cars from the pocket track at Belle Isle that the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway (NYSW) set out. In addition to the interchange cars from the NYSW, L024 also has two cars of scrap metal picked up from Metalico, a scrap dealer in East Syracuse, New York.   With snow falling, M363-25 is stopped on Track 1 at CP 286 waiting for I009-24 to clear ahead of it.   On January 25th, on what had been, up to that point, a rare snowy day, I caught M363-25 at East Syracuse, NY. Due to priority intermodal train I009 departing as M363 passed by DeWitt yard, it had to stop at Control Point (CP) 286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. M363 got back underway after I009 had gotten enough of a head start.   Led by CSXT 3057, M363-25 is back on the move, passing under the westbound signal bridge at CP 286. With three M7 EMUs behind CSXT 255 and CSXT 396, M367-06 passes under the Empire State Trail bridge on the southern end of Onondaga Lake.   On Monday and Wednesday this week, two movements of former Long Island Railroad (LIRR) M7 electric multiple unit (EMU) railcars passed through Syracuse, NY., on CSX manifest train M367 . On Monday, three M7s came through Syracuse on M367-06. Then on Wednesday, another set of three came through on M367-08. The cars had been stripped of most of their components and were just the railcar bodies bound for a scrapper.  M367 on the North Runner with three M7s on the head end passes through CP 286 at East Syracuse, NY.   The M7s were built by Bombardier and were used on both the LIRR and Metro-North Railroad (MNCW). Delivery to the railroads began in 2002. The MNCW's version was known as the M7A. The M7A differed due to the different electrical system the MNCW uses. The M7s were used in pairs and each car contained a set of controls. LIRR 7...

  I001 passes by the old NYC coaling towers between CP 285 and CP 286, near DeWitt Yard.   With snow on the ground and more still falling, I001-28 (North Bergen, NJ., to Chicago (Bedford Park), IL.) is westbound, passing by the old New York Central steam locomotive coaling towers. The coal towers sit along the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision between Control Point (CP) 285 and CP 286 . To the left is manifest train M560-27 on the North Runner heading east into DeWitt Yard.   As rain falls, CSXT 966 passes a MoW truck at CP 286 in East Syracuse, NY.   With rain falling, CSXT 966 leads intermodal train I004-16 east on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at CP 286 , while a maintenance of way (MoW) crew takes a break in their truck. I004 is on Track 2 (Main 2). In the background is the eastward absolute signal (EAS) bridge for CP 286. I004 runs daily from Bedford Park, Illinois, to South Kearny, New Jersey.   W003-15 with CSXT 9969 sits on the Peat Street Lead near the west side CSX's DeWitt Yard.  CSX geometry train W003 made an appearance in Central New York this week. The consist of W003 is comprised of CSXT 9969, a rebuilt EMD GP40WH-2; Hocking Valley, a crew quarters car; and TGC3, the track geometry car. CSXT 9969 is always paired with W003. W003-14 came east from Buffalo, New York, on February 14th, and then tied down overnight in East Syracuse, New York. The next day W003-15 went north from East Syracuse to Massena, New York. CSXT 9969 is shoving W003-15 west on Main 1 through CP 286 next to the old Spano Rail facility (left).   Before going north to Massena, W003-15 had pull east off of the Peat Street Lead to the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at Control Point (CP) 285 (west side of DeWitt Yard). It then shoved west from CP 285 to CP 291. CP 291 , in Syracuse, New York, is where the St. Lawrence Subdivision to Massena starts. At CP 291 W003-15 tested both legs...

CSXT 7214 leads I009-18 west on the Inbound Lead at CP 286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision.   Back in October 2022, I009-18 was working DeWitt Yard using the South Runner and when the train was ready to depart it got lined out of the yard via the Inbound Lead to Control Point (CP) 286. The Inbound Lead leads to Track 1 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at CP 286. CP 286, along with CP 285, control movements into and out of the west end of CSX's DeWitt Yard. The end of I009 clears the curve at CP 286, revealing M621 coming slowly east on Track 8.   After I009 had cleared CP 286, the dispatcher lined manifest train M621-18 (Massena, NY., to Selkirk, NY.) off of Track 8 to Track 2 at CP 286. CSXT 3041 led M621 quickly off of Track 8 to Track 1, and then to Track 2 to continue its journey east to Selkirk. CSXT 3041 leads M621-18 east off Track 8 to Track 1 at CP 286.   UP 2584 and UP 7323 passes by the old Railroad "Y" (red building to the left) at East Syracuse, NY. B741-07 passed through East Syracuse, New York, last weekend, and was led by a pair of Union Pacific (UP) locomotives. UP 2585 and UP 7323 provided another primary color to the railroad landscape of Syracuse, which primarily sees CSX blue. In the above photograph, the locomotives are leading B741 through CP 286 of CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. B741 is a loaded ethanol train that runs from Proviso, Illinois, to Linden, New Jersey. I004 is eastbound, rolling under the eastward signal bridge at CP 286.   CSXT 7210 is leading intermodal train I004-24 (Bedford Park, Illinois, to South Kearny, New Jersey) through Control Point (CP) 286 on CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. The train is passing under the eastbound absolute signals which control tracks 7, 2, 1, and 8 (left to right). CSXT 120 leads I001-25 under the westbound cantilever signal bridge at CP 286.   CSXT 120, still in CSX's YN2 paint scheme, leads last Tuesday's UPS Hotshot priority train I001-25 west at Control Point (CP) 286 . CP 286 is on the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision in East Syracuse, New York. I001  will pass under the westbound signal bridge just east of Burnet Avenue.   CSXT 7235 leads I004-15 under the eastbound signal bridge at CP 286.   While waiting for M364-15 at East Syracuse, New York, I photographed priority intermodal train I004-15 as it passed through Control Point (CP) 286. I004 is on Track 2 and is passing under the signal bridge for the eastward absolute signals (EAS). CP 286 is part of CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision and is about half of a mile west of DeWitt Yard.  Photograph taken on October 16, 2022, at East Syracuse, NY.

  CSXT 4568 leads M364-15 through the crossover from Track 1 to Track 2 at CP 286 .   CSX's latest commemorative locomotive, CSXT 4568, led manifest train M364-15 (Avon, Indiana, to Selkirk, New York) through Syracuse on Sunday. The locomotive commemorates Operation Lifesaver's 50th anniversary. CSXT 4568 was painted in the Operation Lifesaver paint scheme at CSX's shops in Huntington, West Virginia. The locomotive is a SD70MAC and was built in 2000 as CSXT 768. CSXT 4568 is eastbound at CP 286 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at Burnet Street. CSXT 461 and CSXT 3274 lead I157-09 east off the Departure Yard Lead at CP285 at DeWitt Yard. I157-09 has just finished working at DeWitt Yard. I157 came off the Departure Yard Lead at CP 285 and headed west on Track 1 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision. I157 runs daily from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to North Baltimore, Ohio. It is an intermodal train that also carries autorack  cars, as needed. CSXT 5361 leads M560-07 east under the eastbound signal bridge at CP 286 and off Track 8. After I157 had cleared out of East Syracuse at CP 286, M560 -07 came east off Track 8 at CP 286. M560-07 had arrived at East Syracuse late the previous day and tied down on Track 8 with the locomotives at Wegmans. CSXT 3235, CSXT 7799, QNSL 409, and QNSL 408 lead M560-14 east on the North Runner at CP 286 . The red brick building in the background was the Railroad YMCA.   Yesterday, CSX train M560 -14 came through East Syracuse, New York, with a pair of Quebec North Shore & Labrador (QNS&L) locomotives trailing behind the leading CSX locomotives. QNSL 408 and QNSL 409 were the third and fourth locomotives on the train. QNSL 409 and QNSL 408 on CSX train M560-14 passing through East Syracuse, NY., at CP286.   QNS&L is owned by Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC). The railway operates on 257 miles (414 kilometers) of track in the Canadian provinces of Quebec (QC), and Newfoundland and Labrador (NL). QNS&L's original line opened in 1954, connecting Sept-Îles, QC., with the mining community at Schefferville, QC.  M560-14 rolls east on the North Runner past CP 286's westward absolute signals.   QNS&L interchanges with Chemin de fer Arnaud Railway (CFAQ, f...

  CSXT 2502, CSXT 2349, and CSXT 6113 lead local train L024-20 east on the North Runner at Control Point (CP) 286. The train is heading east towards DeWitt Yard . The yard is just around the curve ahead of the train. CSXT 2502, CSXT 2349, and CSXT 6113 lead L024-20 at CP 286. DeWitt Yard is just around the curve.   L024 runs on CSX's Fairgrounds Subdivision (FGS) and Baldwinsville Subdivision (BS), as well as working the Peat Street Lead and Solvay Hill.    The Peat Street Lead diverges from Track 2 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at CP285 .The Fairgrounds Subdivision starts at CP293 of the Syracuse Terminal Subdivision at Solvay, New York. From CP293 the FGS runs north past the New York State Fairgrounds to CP SALT, milepost (MP) QCB 1.9. At CP SALT, the FGS ends, and the BS starts. BNSF 8029 and BNSF 7788 lead CSX train G103-17 east on Track 2 at CP286 at East Syracuse, NY.   BNSF 8029 and BNSF 7788 are the locomotives on CSX grain train G103-17, an eastbound loaded grain train heading to Ayer, Massachusetts. BNSF handed the train off to CSX at Cicero, Illinois, near Chicago, Illinois. Over three days, G103 made its way from Illinois to New York.   Control Point (CP) 286 sits at milepost (MP) 286.6 of CSX's Syracuse Terminal Subdivision . CP 286 is just west of CSX's DeWitt Yard in East Syracuse, New York. In conjunction with CP 285 , CP 286 controls movements on the STS into and out of DeWitt Yard. The CP controls movements on mainline tracks 1 and 2, North Runner , Inbound Lead, Track 7, and Track 8.  CSXT 39 and CN 2838 lead M367-07 west on the North Runner. The Inbound Lead, next to North Runner, diverges from Track 1 here.   The eastern end of CP286 is east of the Burnet Avenue overpass and sits along Carr Street. The track arrangement, from south to north, is Track 2, Track 1, Inbound Lead, and North Runner. The westbound absolute signals (WAS) are next to the former Pandrol Jackson/Speno rail services facility, which was a former NYC engine servicing facility.
